February is just around the corner and with it comes the early migrations of ants, spiders, and cockroaches that are slowly attempting to make their way inside the home. Here are the early spring cleaning chores you should tackle to stop pests from entering your home in the upcoming months.

The basement can be a drag to clean but it is a chore that must be tackled to keep pests away. Clutter and darkness are two main characteristics of basements and unfortunately, it is two things that rodents and spiders are attracted to. Try and eliminate the clutter by going through storage boxes, secure plastic bins and seal cracks or crevices to prevent these critters from entering.

The common critters that like to lurk in the kitchen are ants. The kitchen provides easy access to food and water. Keep on top of your daily kitchen chores and make sure to clean up all spills or sticky residue. Vacuum behind appliances and everywhere else you might find dirt and crumbs in. Having a day-to-day list to clean will make your kitchen less attractive to visitors.

Another place that holds a lot of moisture and is a breeding ground for pests is the bathroom. Bathrooms tend to hold a lot of water (cockroaches and silverfish are very attracted to water). The best way to prevent these pests is to check the tub and toilet for leaky pipes or faucets causing moisture issues. A pest can only survive about a week without water, so keeping the bathroom dry will clear them out.
